- The team’s name, “Sabres,” was chosen through a fan contest. It was selected to represent the powerful and swift nature of a sabre, which is a type of sword.
- The Sabres have made two appearances in the Stanley Cup Finals. They reached the finals in 1974-1975 and 1998-1999 but were unable to capture the championship on both occasions.
- The team’s colors are navy blue, gold, and white. Their logo features a charging buffalo head.
- Gilbert Perreault, a Hockey Hall of Famer, spent his entire NHL career with the Sabres from 1970 to 1987. He is considered one of the greatest players in franchise history and holds many team records.
- The Sabres’ home arena is KeyBank Center, located in Buffalo, New York. It has a seating capacity of approximately 19,000 for hockey games.
- The team’s mascot is named Sabretooth, a large, friendly, and energetic sabre-toothed tiger character.
- The Sabres had a remarkable season in 1975-1976, known as the “French Connection” era. The line of Gilbert Perreault, Rick Martin, and Rene Robert, known as the French Connection, was one of the most dominant and exciting forward lines in NHL history.
- The Sabres had a unique jersey design in the early 2000s that featured a buffalo head on the front instead of the traditional logo. It was nicknamed the “Buffaslug” due to its resemblance to a slug-like creature and received mixed reactions from fans.

Hasek, known as “The Dominator,” is widely regarded as one of the best goaltenders in NHL history and won the Vezina Trophy (awarded to the league’s top goaltender) multiple times during his tenure with the Sabres.
